Welcome to Sunshine Kennel Braque Francais!
Sunshine Kennel was established in 2003 when we imported Uron Des Becassiers De Guillaume (Ronny) from France. Ronny is a wonderful dog. He never quits, handles like a dream and has tons of style and ability. He has also been a complete gentleman since the day we got him. The foundation of our breeding program was completed when we imported Adela De La Balingue (Addie) from France in 2005. Addie is a classic versatile dog. She is a hard worker with excellent pointing and tracking skills and her water entry rivals that of a retriever. She is not only a beautiful and talented dog; she is a sweetheart of a Braque.
With the foundation of our breeding program complete we whelped our first litter in 2007 and our second litter in 2008. Ronny and Addie have produced beautiful and talented puppies in their first two litters and we have had the opportunity to work with several as adults.
Background of the Braque Francais
The Braque Francais is a French pointing dog that is well-known in France and other parts of Europe, and is promoted by enthusiasts in Canada and the US. The Braque Francais, which translates to French Pointer in English, is an ancient breed. It is a direct descendant of the very first pointing dog, the Spanish Pointer. The Braque Francais first became established in the Pyrenees Mountains of southern France and later spread throughout France. The breed not only contributed to all of the French pointing breeds such as the Braque du Bourbonnais, but is also contributed to all of the shorthaired dogs of Continental Europe.
The Braque Francais is registered through the Societe Centrale Canine (SCC) in France. In North America the Braque Francais is recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) and the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA.)
Our Goal
Our goal is to breed high performing versatile hunting dogs for the foot hunter. The traits we look for in our dogs is a strong pointing instinct, tracking ability, reliable retrievers from both land and water and responsiveness to their handler. Sunshine Kennel also strives to breed dogs that conform to the breed standard and encompass the best qualities of a family companion.
