Welcome Wade and Katie Landreville, along with our daughter Ellie, welcome you to Sunshine Kennel! Sunshine Kennel was established in 2003 when we imported our first Braque, our male Uron, from France. We had the opportunity to import Adela, our female, from France in 2005. These dogs have become not only our hunting, training and testing companions but loving members of our family. Our first litter was whelped in 2007.
We learned of the Braque Francais in the late 1990’s and instantly became interested in this breed that is known for its hunting ability and biddable nature. “Ronny” is a hard hunting dog but also the most responsive dog that we’ve ever experienced. That combination sold us on the breed forever. “Addie” is a classic versatile hunting dog, a solid pointer and a reliable retriever. Ronny and Addie are passing along their unique characteristics to their puppies.
Background of the Braque Francais The Braque Francais is a French pointing dog that is well-known in France and other parts of Europe and is promoted by enthusiasts in Canada. It is relatively new to the American gun dog scene. The Braque Francais, which translates to French Pointer, is an ancient breed. It is credited as contributing to all of the French pointing breeds such as the Braque de l’Ariege, Braque d’Auvergne, Braque du Bourbonnais and the Braque Saint Germain.
The Braque Francais is a continental breed, which refers to pointing breeds developed in Continental Europe several hundred years ago. These breeds are commonly known as versatile breeds because they are known for not only their pointing skills, but for their tracking and retrieving skills as well. The continental pointing breeds are strongly represented in NAVHDA, a non-profit organization known for their hunt tests which mimic actual hunting situations.
Our Goal Our goal is to develop the Sunshine Kennel line of Braque Francais to the highest degree possible.
We will accomplish this by: · Importing the finest bred Braque Francais from respected breeders in Europe to supplement our breeding stock. · Screening our breeding stock with stringent health checks. · Impartially evaluate our dog’s talents by competing in NAVHDA hunt tests. · Raising them in our home to determine their disposition. |
