Welcome to Sunshine Kennel Braque Francais!

Sunshine Kennel was established in 2003 when Uron Des Becassiers De Guillaume (Ronny) was imported from France. Ronny turned out to be a wonderfully talented dog. As a result of our experience with Ronny, Adela De La Balingue (Addie) was imported rom France in 2005. The decision to import dogs was made because we want to produce the same type of puppies that are being produced in France. These dogs have become not only hunting, training and testing companions but loving family members. Litter A was whelped in 2007 and Litter B was whelped in 2008.

We learned of the Braque Francais in the late 1990’s and instantly became interested in this breed that is known for its hunting ability and biddable nature. Ronny is a hard hunting dog but also the most responsive dog that we’ve ever experienced. That combination sold us on the breed forever. Addie is a classic versatile hunting dog, a solid pointer and a reliable retriever. Ronny and Addie have produced some outstanding puppies in their first two litters.

Background of the Braque Francais

The Braque Francais is a French pointing dog that is well-known in France and other parts of Europe and is promoted by enthusiasts in Canada.  It is relatively new to the American gun dog scene. The Braque Francais, which translates to French Pointer in English, is an ancient breed.  It is credited as contributing to all of the French pointing breeds such as the Braque de l’Ariege, Braque d’Auvergne, Braque du Bourbonnais and the Braque Saint Germain.

The Braque Francais is a continental breed, which refers to pointing breeds developed in Continental Europe several hundred years ago. These breeds are commonly known as versatile breeds because they are known for not only their pointing skills, but for their tracking and retrieving skills as well.  The continental pointing breeds are strongly represented in the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA), a non-profit organization known for their hunt tests which mimic actual hunting situations. We are members of our local NAVHDA chapter and utilize NAVHDA hunt tests to objectively measure our dog’s abilities before they enter our breeding program.

Our Goal

Our goal is to breed high performing hunting dogs for the foot hunter. Sunshine Kennel strives to breed dogs that conform strictly to the breed standard and encompass the best qualities of a family companion.
